Jack Dorsey is having talks with Twitter about returning to the company, but in a new role, according to a report from Business Insider. Twitter wants Dorsey to take the role of product leadership. Dorsey is one of the founders of Twitter, and the person who invented the platform. Currently he is the CEO of Square, a mobile payment service that lets users to use their credit cards through their mobile phones.
Twitter’s existing CEO, Dick Costolo, will step down from his chair but will continue working in the company. So who will be the next CEO then? This hasn’t been decided yet. I am personally eager to know who is going to be the next Twitter CEO, because the chair has been held by only the key people until now. Dorsey along with Biz Stone and Evan Williams, founded Twitter in 2006. Then in 2007, Dorsey became the first CEO of Twitter. Dorsey’s tenure lasted for a year and in 2008, Williams went on to become the CEO. After Williams, Costolo became the chief executive officer in 2010.
In my view, we could see Biz Stone, Twitter’s creative director in this new role. Stone has promoted the company recently on many occasions by issuing press releases. Also, he is the only one left to become CEO amongst the major figures of Twitter. So, I won’t be surprised if I see Biz Stone as the new CEO.
Twitter’s product team requires new people as Jason Goldman, who was vice president of product at Twitter left in December 2010. I think Dorsey would be a good choice for this post. Regarding his taking up the role, the company said, “We’re fortunate that our chairman, Jack Dorsey, has been able to get even more engaged in the company. His assistance has and will continue to be invaluable.”
