Twitter is surely becoming a top social network due to its immense popularity and growth in the social media space. Right from a normal twitterer to a celebrity, everyone is hands on tweeting real time. Any new topic in the world of news gets to twitter first. For e.g. the Lalit Modi- Shashi Tharoor Saga was one of the many topics that were discussed extensively on twitter recently. Remember the entire episode of #CCDsucks that gave it a lot of negative publicity and there were quotes running on the web saying “Indeed a lot can happen over coffee!” Twitter is now heavily used by brands to promote on social media. A lot of big brands like Fastrack, Neo Cricket, MTV India, etc. are on twitter and what else, they are conversing with their target audience for good. But a lot of brands do not get it right and unsurprisingly there are more of them. In any case, I am giving away some points that you might think of before logging on to twitter.
Here is how you can ROCK it!
1) Don’t go Berserk
I know you are on twitter and you want to go out in the open and shout. But do not shout that you are audible to people who do not want to hear you out. Tweet, but don’t overdo it. As experience suggests, a lot of brands on twitter want instant growth and increase in traffic which is not possible even if you are a Vodafone or an Airtel.
2) Don’t be a Sissy
As a brand on twitter never protect your tweets. It depends on the types of update you do as well. For e.g. Vodafone India only looks at customer queries of any ill service. So over here, even if I am a Vodafone fan, I would think twice before following them as it doesn’t serve the purpose of updating me with current offers. Anyways a lot of people also judge you by your tweets and you are not an introvert to just not tweet or protect it, are you?
3) Jump in the pool only if know how to Swim
Don’t just do it as it’s a need for your brand to be on twitter as competing brands are. Do it because you readily want to take your brand to a conversational level altogether. If need be do a bit of monitoring and then try and explore the world.
4) Describe yourself
Talk about your brand in the best possible manner. All keywords to be obviously included with the profile picture of the logo. This clearly lands you search and also differentiates you from others as well.
5) See if you get the right fishes
Check for yourself if you have got people who use the brand or are potential brand users on twitter. Doing your homework is better than just giving it a shot. I believe a lot of monitoring tools are present on the social web that helps know your target audience better.
5) Check what they are up to
It is very important to see what your competitors are up to. When you know stuff, you can actually get on to what they are doing and do something more than that. Gives you an edge?
6) Shout it loud when you do Good
Talk and brag about all the things on earth done by you, which made a difference. Until and unless you have the pull effect you will not be able to get people. When someone mentions you for good, go out in the open to accept it and talk about the same.
7) Get the Big Daddies in
Target only influencers on twitter. Obviously celebrities will do pay heed to what you are doing as you are a brand, but if one is endorsing you, then he/she may want to tweet once or twice. Also there is the common man on Twitter who is sometimes an influencer. These are real twitter celebrities and have a good number of loyal followers.
Automation is for BAD
Please do not schedule/RSS tweets until is very very very important. The rule on twitter is 70% of your tweets should consist of @replies and ReTweets. Besides this real time updates and replies gives you a lot of leverage. So use it via your mobile phone to act a little smart.
9) Don’t be a #GrammarGandu
Nothing can annoy followers than bad language skills. All you have to do is not tweet if you don’t know how to tweet. Bad English is a complete no no as a lot of people are just sitting there to take your case in any case. But then please know the twitter language to fit your tweet in 140 characters.
So now that I have given you the right mix of what you should do on twitter, please do not complain if anything goes wrong if you follow this. But yea, you can surely appreciate and let me know if you think this was resourceful.
