Facebook Friend Referrals Actually Work – Report

There are a bunch of nah sayers who say that social media roi is still to be established. And while social media roi is in its infancy we have reported before as to how it is starting to inspire confidence among marketers.

Now it seems another report is out on the impact made by facebook referrals among US users. Emarketer report suggests that 68% of those surveyed are more likely to buy a product or visit a retailer recommended via facebook by their friends.

As you can see from the chart above this should inspire a lot of confidence in marketers to enhance their facebook presence and invest in social media as a whole.  The top types of fan pages for which users have become fans are restaurants, clothing and electronics.

All in all it does seem like platforms like facebook and twitter are growing in influence when it comes to purchasing decisions. Only time will tell though as to how marketers leverage these mediums without being banned for spamming users.
